POLICE ACADEMY
Cobb County maintains a strong commitment to the high quality training we are known for throughout the southeast. Applicants who successfully complete the hiring process will join our team and receive full pay and benefits while undergoing 26 weeks of mandate training as part of a team of Cobb County Police recruits at our own departmental police academy. This state of the art training facility provides training well in excess of the state standard of 12 weeks to build Cobb County Police officers who are prepared to succeed in their mission serving the community through any circumstances.
The highly qualified and experienced training staff provide exceptional instruction and leadership in academic studies, practical scenarios, mindset training, de-escalation, use of force, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, firearms and many other topics. In order to develop highly capable, healthy and fit police officers, physical fitness is an integral part of the training evolution. Physical fitness training consists of HIIT style workouts using mainly bodyweight exercises and running.
At the completion of mandate training, you will be prepared to transition your learning experience to the field. After graduation, officers will be dispersed to precincts across the county to begin 12 weeks of field training with a Field Training Officer. Once successfully completing field training, new officers are released to solo status.
However, the training component of your career never ends. As a member of a large and highly professional law enforcement organization, professional development and advanced training is provided in an ongoing basis throughout your career as a Cobb County Police officer.
